Programme overview

ESAO 2025

Innovations in (Bio)Artificial Organs and Organ Models

The event will feature a dynamic program of keynote and plenary presentations, interactive symposia, and discussions, providing in-depth insights into the latest breakthroughs in the field. Attendees will gain valuable knowledge about the potential of bioartificial organs to improve patient care and their ethical and societal implications. By offering a platform for diverse perspectives, ESAO 2025 will inspire thought-provoking conversations that push the boundaries of what is possible in medicine. We are excited about the upcoming event and are working diligently to curate a lineup of engaging sessions, esteemed speakers and calls for abstracts.

Pre-conferences

On Tuesday, June 24, two inspiring pre-conferences will occur, both well worth attending. Young researchers can join the y.ESAO is a unique opportunity to exchange knowledge and build valuable connections. Participation is open to members, so be sure to sign up for y.ESAO in advance. At the same time, the Kolff Foundation is hosting a fascinating symposium in the historic city of Kampen, a must-visit for anyone interested in this field. Are you staying in Enschede (for the ESAO 2025)? No worries—the organization has arranged a shuttle service to take you to Kampen and back. Don’t miss this chance to expand your knowledge and connect with like-minded professionals!

Trans-Atlantic Symposium: Past, Present and Future of Kidney Replacement Therapy: It started in Kampen.

Kolff Symposium 2025: 80 Years of Artificial Kidney Innovation. On June 24, 2025, the Kolff Symposium in Kampen will celebrate 80 years since Dr. Kolff’s artificial kidney and 65 years since Dr. Scribner’s dialysis shunt revolutionized kidney care. Experts like Prof. Shuvo Roy, Dr. Steve Ash and Dr. Fokko Wieringa will discuss innovations such as the implantable artificial kidney. The event highlights transatlantic collaborations and regulatory insights from the FDA and culminates in the Kolff Prize award. Chaired by Tom Oostrom, the symposium welcomes nephrologists, researchers, and policymakers and precedes the ESAO Conference (June 25-28, Enschede). A key event for those shaping the future of artificial kidneys and vascular access.
